Innovative Program History

Many of APPLE FamilyWorks programs have been integrated into the fabric of the community while contemporary programs are developed to meet families’ changing needs.  Examples of our pioneering programs are:

Examples of APPLE FamilyWorks pioneering programs and services are:

1981 Established Marin’s first Family Center and was also selected by the March of Dimes to provide perinatal programs for Spanish-speaking families.
1989 Chosen by the Golden Gate Regional Center and the State of California to develop and provide the first Parenting Education Services for parents and children with developmental disabilities in the Bay Area.
1991 Founded the APPLE FamilyWorks Counseling Center, Psychotherapist Training Institute, and the county’s first Temperament Education Center.
1993 Established SAVE Kids’ Supervised Therapeutic Visitation Center – another Marin first – offering vital services to high-conflict families.
2001 Sponsored the highly popular outdoor summer family film festival, Film Night in the Park, as a project.
2002 Expanded FamilyNews to FamilyWorks Magazine, reaching 60,000 readers six times a year.
2004 Established the Families of the Year Award, including the Family Friendly Business of the Year Award.
2005 Formed F.I.R.S.T. (FamilyWorks Inspiration, Resource & Support Team), a volunteer team that supports projects and increases community awareness of our services.
2006 Designed the Exploring Motherhood Program for expecting and new parents and their infants, designed to improve zero to three child growth and development, through prevention and early intervention services.
2007 Designed and presented Back to Family, the first ever parenting education and family reunification program for San Quentin’s soon to be released prisoners and the mothers of their children.
2008 Expanded the Child Centered Co-parenting program to include individual and group services to help high-conflict parents learn to put their children first.
2009 Designed the Family Integrated Therapy program utilizing state of the art two-way mirror, plus video and sound recording.
2010 Expanded our Parenting Support and Life Skills services to serve adults and parents with developmental disabilities and their children, throughout 11 Bay Area Counties.
