For over three decades, these ground-breaking services have enhanced the lives of thousands people - of all ages and circumstances - due to a rigorous and compassionate focus on prevention, skills-building and the accessing of internal and external resources.
The effectiveness of our pioneering program design and services delivery has been recognized by Independent Charities of America in presenting us with their prestigious Best in America award. This distinction honors the top 3% of non-profit agencies nationwide that meet "the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness”.
Examples of FamilyWorks pioneering programs and services are:
| 1978 | Established Marin’s first Parenting Center |
| 1981 | Established Marin’s first Family Center and was also selected by the March of Dimes to provide perinatal programs for Spanish speaking families |
| 1989 | Chosen by the Golden Gate Regional Center and the State of California to develop and provide the first Parenting Education Services for parents and children with developmental disabilities in the Bay Area |
| 1991 | Founded the FamilyWorks Counseling Center, psychotherapist training program, and the county’s first Temperament Education Center |
| 1993 | Established SAVE Kids’ Supervised Visitation Center – another Marin first – offering vital services to high-conflict families |
| 1999 | Established Marin’s first Temperament Training Institute |
| 2001 | Sponsored the highly popular outdoor summer family film festival, Film Night in the Park, as a project |
| 2002 | Expanded FamilyNews to FamilyWorks Magazine, reaching 60,000 readers each issue |
| 2004 | Established the Families of the Year Award, including the Family Friendly Business of the Year Award |
| 2005 | Formed F.I.R.S.T. (FamilyWorks Inspiration, Resource & Support Team), a volunteer team that supports projects and increases community awareness of our services |
| 2006 | Began the Nurture Program- support and education groups for English and Spanish speaking expecting and new parents and their infants |
| 2007 | Co-created Back to Family - a pioneering family reunification program for fathers and mothers affected by incarceration - providing parenting, relationship and life-skills education |
| 2009 | Expanded the Special Needs Program – we now offer wrap-around Parenting Support Services and Independent Living Skills services to parents with developmental disabilities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area – from Salinas to Guerneville and from Vacaville to the coast |
