W.H.A.T.’s U.P.?TM

Where Healthy Attitudes Thrive Under Pressure
for Pre-teens & Young Adolescents

W.H.A.T.’s U.P.? is an after-school course especially designed for 6th & 7th grade boys and girls.  The course is intended to increase awareness and understanding of communication techniques and refusal skills that will help teens and pre-teens more successfully navigate the pressures and difficulties they face.

The course is delivered in separate boys and girls groups and consists of lecture, facilitated discussion, self-expression, and role-play about:

  • appropriate social interaction
  • peer pressure
  • puberty and sex
  • respectful communication
  • health & safety
  • goal-setting
  • the disadvantages of being a teen parent

W.H.A.T.’s U.P.? provides a safe, engaging, and informative experience for young people to talk about relevant and important issues.  Young people face a lot of pressures and there are many confusing elements to being an adolescent.  The confusion and pressure can sometimes lead to poor decisions.  The goal of this class is to increase the likelihood of making good decisions in order to reduce risky behavior and exposure to risky situations.
